Our On-Going Projects

Public Demonstrations of Our Opposition to War:

Our members participate in demonstrations against the wars in their local communities on a regular basis. We have also participated in regional and area events. We table at a variety of community events, screen movies and make public presentations to further the goals of Veterans For Peace. Pictures/details of some our past activities are here.

Upcoming events are listed here.

Peg McIntire Peace Scholarship:

Each year Central Florida Veterans For Peace join Grandparents for Peace and St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice in presenting a "Peace Scholarship" to a St. Johns County Senior. Any senior in any high school in St. Johns County, public or private, is eligible. The scholarship money is awarded directly to the student to use for any type of post high school education or training. In the past, the scholarship was $500.00. This year we have been able to raise the amount to $1000.00. Details about the scholarship can be found here. Last year's winner was Leda Balch. Her essay can be read here.

Annual Anne Feeney Concert

In 2008, St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice, the Central Florida Chapter of Veterans For Peace, Grandparents For Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War and the local Amnesty International Chapter sponsored Anne Feeney's first ever concert in St. Augustine. The concert was a benefit to raise money for the IVAW Winter Soldier Project. Details of that concert here. This year we will again host Anne in concert as a fundraiser for our organizations' projects. She will be performing at the St. Augustine Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship on March 7th. Details here

Support For Veronza Bowers

Chapter members in St. Augustine/St. Johns County, working in conjunction with members of our community and in recognition of the 2005 Veterans for Peace Resolution, support the demand for the immediate release of Veronza Bowers from federal custody. We also work with communty members to further his release.

Support For Seeds For Afghanistan

Chapter members in St. Augustine/St. Johns County, working in conjunction with members of St. Augustine People for Peace and Justice, are collecting seed packets for the people of Afghanistan. Details here.
